

She was born on September 13, 1932, the daughter of William Wilson and Mary Ryan, in Newark, NJ during a short term move from CT for a job during the depression.
She attended St John’s School for K thru 8 and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1950.
She was employed at Ryan, Ryan, and Hickey as a legal secretary before starting a family, and at St. Joseph’s Hospital as a business office admin for 17 years ending in 1994. She was a member of St Bridget’s parish for over 60 years. She enjoyed pinochle, and the Yankees.
One phrase to describe her is that “she wanted everything to be done right, and she wanted to do the right thing”.
Barbara is survived by her son John “Jack” Hlavaty, grandson Christopher Hlavaty, and granddaughter Lauren Hlavaty. Barbara was predeceased by her husband Edward Hlavaty, parents William Wilson and Mary Ryan Wilson Hewitt, and sister Margaret “Peggy” Wilson Halmeck Barrett.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours Friday, October 31, from 5 to 8 pm, at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford, CT, 06905. A funeral Service will be celebrated on Saturday November 1 at 10 am, at St. Bridget’s Parish, 278 Strawberry Hill Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902. Interment to follow at St. John’s Cemetery on Hoyt St. in Darien.
