

Carmine Vitiello Sr., 78, longtime Connecticut resident, passed away peacefully on March 9,2017, beside his beloved wife Maria of 56 years, in Trumbull, CT. Carmine was born on November 18, 1938 in Ponza, Italy, the son of the late Nicola and Maria (Cappuccio) Vitiello. He immigrated to the United States in 1955 living between New York and California, where he worked in construction and commercial fishing. Settling in Greenwich, CT he eventually opened his first restaurant in 1971, remaining in the business for over 20 years before retiring to Trumbull. Carmine was an avid outdoorsman, and a particularly skilled fisherman and hunter, loving husband, father and grandfather. Carmine was predeceased by his daughter, Lucy Vitiello, grandson, JJ Vitiello and two brothers Anthony and George Vitiello. He is survived by his wife, Maria (DeFeo) Vitiello of Trumbull; his sons Nicola Vitiello (kathie) of Trumbull, Carmine Jr. Vitiello (Erin) of Stamford, CT; his daughter Angela (Vitiello) Romeo (Michael) of Greenwich; his sisters Josephine (Vitiello) Ruggiero, of Missouri, Marie Tecla Vitiello-Del-papa, of New York, Esther (Vitiello) Ciarrocchi, of California, as well as eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home. 2900 Summer Street, Stamford. Calling hours will be Sunday, March 12, from 3 to 7 p.m. The funeral will be held on Monday, March 13, 2017, 10 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena, 4 Riverside Ave, Riverside, CT, followed by a private burial.
