Catherine Elizabeth Manning, age 59, of Stamford, Connecticut passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2022 after a lengthy battle with Endometrial Cancer. Catherine was born December 21, 1962 in Queens Village, NY. She was the daughter of Michael A. DeMita, and Helen E. DeMita (Wynne). She graduated with a CPA in Accounting from Pace University and held two Masters – One in Teaching from University of Bridgeport, and one in Statistics from the University of Idaho.
Cathy was a devoted educator and her career in academia was her passion. She was a wonderful friend to her fellow teachers, and her students loved her both as an instructor and mentor who always made herself available to anyone who needed her support and counsel. Known by her friends as a “warrior woman,” she was deeply driven to change the course of civil injustice for marginalized communities and LGBTQIA+ youth. She was an outspoken advocate for Women’s rights and equality for all.
In her spare time, she was generous and supportive of many causes, having sewed and donated more than 1,000 masks at the height of Covid, donating her time to help organize the Rainbow Coalition at Westhill High School, tutoring students, and raising money for personal causes that were near and dear to her heart.
Cathy formed lasting friendships with her fellow teachers, and their love and support of one another was incredible. Her children were her world, and as each moved through life, their accomplishments were her pride and joy. Just one year ago, she became a grandmother to a beautiful grandson, and her excitement was palpable.
She is preceded in death by her daughter Audrey Manning, and her husband, Edward Manning. She is survived by her children Emily Manning of Fairfield, CT, Christopher Manning of North Salem, NY, and Tori Manning of Brighton, MA.
Friends, family, teachers and students are invited to calling hours Monday, August 22, 2022 at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford, CT 06905 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.
