Dannette Maria Murphy, age 81, passed away on August 16, 2021. Dannette was born to Daniel and Laura Murphy on June 19, 1940. She was a “Southern Bell” of Camden, South Carolina, but in her heart, a true city girl. Dannette moved to New York City for a few years, before finding her home in Stamford, Connecticut.
Dannette Murphy went by “Dee” since it is short and sassy just like she was. Dee loved to shop and style outfits. Always fabulous, as her favorite color was purple. Dee always looked sharp from head to toe and was proud as a peacock with her fabulous handbags. She loved to get together with family, friends, and party. She deeply loved her family.
Dee has worn many hats in this life. She was a mother, father, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, referee, soldier and cherished friend. If you needed Dee, she would be there. So long as she could, they would show up and show out for you. Some of her favorite sayings “Don’t take no wooden nickels”, “A hit dog will holler”, “Life is too short for BS” and “PEACE”. Dee worked in corporate American for many years- from NASDAQ to Wells Fargo Bank where she retired in 2012. During “retirement”, she worked as a daycare provider working with children from ages 0-10 years old. She was an active foster parent, CNA, and a member/daughter of the Elks Lodge.
Her mother and father predecease Dee. I am blessed to say that she is part of a four-generation female legacy and leaves behind her daughter Michele Cardwell, her granddaughter Asia Adams-Cardwell, and her great-granddaughter, Chinarayne Cardwell. Her four sons, Joseph Johnson, Kelvin Johnson, Karl Johnson, and Daryl Johnson; her godson Trevis Torres, two sisters, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends also survive her.
All of us are truly blessed to have had the pleasure of being in her life and feeling her love.
Thank you Jesus
