Dorothy Hill McKenna 91 of Stamford CT and East Orange NJ. Entered into eternal life peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday June 4th. She was born on May 3. 1922 to the late Darsie Hill & Ella Fisher. Predeceased by her husband, John J. McKenna, and son, John M. McKenna
She was born in Ottumwa, Iowa. Lived in Batavia, Iowa until the early 1940's, after receiving her associates degree she moved to Washington DC to "contribute to the war effort." by working at the Pentagon as a secretary.
After marrying John McKenna in Washington, D.C. they made their first home in East Orange NJ before moving to Stamford, Ct in 1973. Her passion in life was her six children, vacationing at the Jersey shore, volunteering at St Joseph’s Hospital Gift shop and playing pinochle. She was loved and cherished by all who knew and loved her. She will be fondly remembered for her sense of humor and strong religious devotion. She is survived by her son Joseph of Stamford and future daughter-in-law Cyndi Kane of Stamford, daughter Elizabeth of Stamford, Kathryn of Mine Hill, NJ, Mary Ann of Pflugerville, TX. and Patricia Gilbert and her husband Russell of Soldiers Grove, WI, and daughter-in-law, Sharon McKenna of Port Murray, NJ. Also survived by her adored 13 grandchildren Laura, Catherine, Attilla, Imre, Paul, Faye, Alkoto, Phoebe, Christopher, Martha, Abby, Brian, Chloe and 6 great-grandchildren Dylan, Adrian, Ethan, Orren, Tihamer and Jade. Also survived by five siblings Martha Hays of Iowa, Marilyn Aydelette and her husband Tom of North Carolina, Carlos Hill of Colorado, Kay Kisling and her husband Dwight of Colorado, and David Hill and his wife Joed of Paraguay SA. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
A Christian Memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 8 at 10 a.m. at St. Cecilia Church, 1184 Newfield Ave. Stamford, CT.
