Edward Friedlander, 87, of Stamford, Connecticut, passed away on June 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 12, 1939, in Brooklyn, New York, and lived a life defined by service, devotion, and an unshakeable love for the people around him.
Edward spent his career in public education, working as both a dedicated guidance counselor and school administrator. For decades, he shaped the minds and futures of the students in his community, earning the respect of colleagues, parents, and generations of young people whose lives he touched. He approached his work not as a job but as a calling — a belief that education was among the most important things one person could offer another.
Edward was a passionate tennis player and loved watching his grandson play. But above all else, he lived for his family. Nothing brought him greater happiness than time spent with the people he loved most. He was a constant, steady presence and his warmth and humor made any room better for having him in it.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Janie Friedlander; his children Jill (Robert Hayduk), Lee (Lisa France), and Ben Friedlander (Cara); his cherished grandchildren Eli and Jesse Friedlander; and his brothers Robert and Leonard Friedlander, along with their families.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the American Heart Association.
Ed will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
