Effpraxia (Effie) Gianos passed away peacefully with family at her side on October 7, 2021. Effie was born April 27, 1935 in Manhattan, the daughter of Greek Immigrants, Thomas and Evdokia Panos. She married Edward Aristedes Gianos on October 21, 1956. They lived in NY before moving their family to Greenwich, CT in 1968. Effie was valedictorian of her high school class and went on to get her college degree when her children were in grade and high schools, graduating Suma Cum Laude from Queens College. She taught English as a second language for several years before working for the investment firm, Webber and Doepke in Greenwich, CT. She then went on to work for many years as Administrative Assistant for the Commissioner of Public Works for the Town of Greenwich. In addition to her parents, Effie is predeceased by her loving husband, Eddie, who passed away October 8, 2004. She is survived by her sister and best friend, Bessie Maglaras, her children Diana (John) Duros of Columbus, OH, Ed (Maria) Gianos, Jr. of New Milford, CT, and Mary (Mark) Schiller of Fairfield, CT. She is also survived by six loving grandchildren; Stephanie and Dean Duros, Brian and Justin Schiller, and Lauren and Chloe Gianos. Effie was a faithful and active member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Archangels in Stamford, CT. She will be missed by the many lives she touched in her community, church and family. Calling hours are 4-8 PM, Friday, Oct. 15th at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son funeral home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford, CT. A funeral will be held Saturday, Oct. 16 at 11:00 AM at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Archangels, 1527 Bedford St. Stamford, CT. Burial will follow at Putnam Cemetery, 35 Parsonage Road, Greenwich, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greek Orthodox Church of the Archangels, 1527 Summer Street, Stamford, CT 06905.
