
Born February 21, 1916 in the Bronx to Sina and Maurice Freedman she was one of three children. She was predeceased by her brothers Dr Robert Freedman and Richard Freedman.
Elsie has lived in Stamford since 1949. She received her B.A.degree in fine arts from Brooklyn College and did graduate work at NYU.
Married to her late beloved husband Joe for seventy years they were featured in a Stamford Advocate story on how to make love last---“trust, laughter, and enduring love” That defined their years together.
Upon Joe’s retirement they shared their travel experiences with groups at Senior Centers
and residences throughout Fairfield County. She was an active volunteer, recognized for her dedication and effort on behalf of local community groups including the Pink Tent and Stamford Festival of the Arts, the Stamford Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, the Ferguson Library and the Stamford Jewish Community Center. Elsie was also a former President of the Sisterhood of Temple Beth El.
Elsie, a renowned local artist, and former President of the Stamford Art Association, was gifted in her ability to paint --- whether oils, acrylics, or watercolors as well as being a skilled potter and sculptor.
She is survived by her daughter Carol (and Andrew) Maxon of Stamford, sons Dr Robert (and Jan) Ralph of Potomac, Md , and Larry Ralph of Beverly, Mass --- six grandchildren Jodi (and Cory) Gubner of Stamford, Jeff Maxon of Rye Brook, NY, Jamie (and Jason) Cohen of North Caldwell, NJ -- Alison (and Andy) Rhein of Bethesda, Md., Stephanie (and Dan) Zilberman of London and Scarsdale, NY and Suman Ralph of Beverly, Mass. , as well as 13 great grand children --- Jacob and Sydney Gubner, Gabi, Lexi and Nikki Maxon, Jordan and Hailey Cohen, Charlie, Sascha and Dylan Rhein and Blake, Hallie and Bennett Zilberman.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday November 22, 2016 at Temple Beth El, 350 Roxbury Road, Stamford at 11am.
Shiva – a celebration of her life will be observed at the home of Carol and Andrew Maxon.
