Francis B. Linn

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, on December 13, 1932, he was the son of the late Francis and Josephine Linn and came from a large family of six children: four brothers, James, Bernard, Gerard, and Joseph, and one sister, Clara.

In Scotland, Francis completed his training in finish carpentry and served in the Royal Air Force.

Francis married Margaret (Reilly) Linn in 1960 and later emigrated to the United States in 1968. He had three children: Caroline (deceased), Gerard (fiancée, Nancy), and Jacqueline (husband, Greg D’Onofrio). He is survived by four grandchildren, Reilly, Caroline, Colin, and Samantha, along with many nieces and nephews. He also shared a special bond with Karen Cardella, whom he would proudly say was “another daughter” to him.

After moving to the United States in 1968, he made Stamford his home and spent his career working on numerous projects throughout the area, including buildings, bridges, and other major construction projects such as the Landmark Building downtown, the Xerox Building, and Canterbury Green.

One of Frank’s greatest professional legacies was the knowledge he shared with others. Over the years, he trained and mentored many apprentices in the Stamford area, teaching finish carpentry through the Carpenter Union and emphasizing the importance of doing a job well. Even decades later, former apprentices would approach Frank to thank him for what he had taught them, which was a source of great pride for him.

Frank was a parishioner of St. Bridget of Ireland Church in Stamford and was formerly a member of the Elks and the Knights of Columbus.

Golfing, swimming, and traveling to Bermuda were among Frank’s favorite pastimes. He was a member of the Scottish Thistle Golf Club and The Has Beens and would play golf every weekend with friends and family at Hubbard Heights Golf Course.

Those who knew Frank knew there was very little he couldn’t fix with whatever he had on hand, earning him the nickname “MacGyver.” Frank was also known for his quick, witty, dry sense of humor, always having a funny quip or comment about almost anything.

The Linn family extends its sincere gratitude to the staff at Nathaniel Witherell for the kindness, skill, compassion, and care they provided to Frank.

Family and friends may pay their respects at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home in Stamford on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Bridget of Ireland Church in Stamford at 11:00 a.m. Frank will then be laid to rest beside his beloved Margaret and Caroline at Queen of Peace Cemetery in Stamford.

Frank always deeply felt for kids going through any medical conditions so In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Frank’s memory.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
