Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of Henry and Celia Bernstein. Helen attended Syracuse University, where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree. She subsequently received her Master’s degree in Education. As a teacher, Helen taught various grades in different elementary schools in New York before focusing on teaching reading to students in multiple public schools in Stamford.
Helen will be forever remembered by those who knew her as gracious and charming. Humble, she tended to play down her strengths, but always valued the truth - an attitude that sprouted from the moment that her mother tried to convince her that she was eating asparagus, which she loved, rather than the green beans she was actually eating. But to Helen, the things that mattered most were family and beauty in all things - whether that meant her clothes, her house, or her food.
She is survived by sons Daniel (Corinne) of Dover, MA and Paul (Tracey) of Philadelphia, PA, two grandchildren, Amanda (Jeremy) and Mira, and great-grandson Ethan. Her husband of 61 years, Richard LeVine, died in 2012.
