
Jacob Nathan “Jack” Stiassny died Wednesday, October 16, 2014 at Stamford Hospital. Born May 25, 1922 on the lower east side of New York City, he was the only son of Leopold and Anny Stiassny. Jack graduated from NYU - College of Engineering before joining the army signal corps in 1943. He served as a first lieutenant signal center officer in Australia until 1946. Jack returned to New York City and worked for John Doris Inc. where he worked on projects including the renovation of Yankee stadium and the 1964 NY World’s Fair. He later started his own electrical contract firm, RCS Management, and was an adjunct professor for the University of Hartford teaching for the National Electrical Contractors Association IBEW, and teaching & mentoring many great minds in the field of electrical estimation and contracting. He worked well into his 80s, passionate about his career. Jack married Ruth Cohen Stiassny in 1951, & moved to Stamford, CT in 1953. He was the Father of three children, Vivian Sara Stiassny, Lloyd Harris Stiassny, and Regina “Ginny” Efronson; seven Grandchildren, Aaron, Ari, Elliot, Peter, & Leah Stiassny, Danielle & Benjamin Efronson; and four great grandchildren Mia, Col Dov, Pierre-Samuel, & Julien-Didier Stiassny. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth in 2009, after 58 years of marriage. He believed in community service and was as an active member & past president of the Stamford Jewish Center, member of the American Magen David Adom for Israel, played the violin and served as the librarian for the Stamford Symphony, and was an active member & board member of Congregation Agudath Sholom, helping with the construction of the synagogue on Strawberry Hill. Jack spent the last years of his life at Atria Stamford, where he made many new friends. He was well loved by his family, friends and colleagues, touching the lives of all. He was always positive, authentic, caring, and remembered the name of everyone he met, even at 92. Above all he was a true gentleman. He will be missed by everyone who knew him; will always be remembered and always loved. A Graveside Service will be held at 12 Noon on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at the Agudath Sholom Cemetery, Westhill Rd. Stamford. The family will gather at Atria Stamford at 2 PM following the funeral service.
