Thinking of you Fitz as I am about to teach a section on Pop Art specifically about Corita Kent, in my Art History from a Queer Perspective series at our local LGBT Community Center. When I was 1 (1968), I went with my sister Dennis and her then boyfriend Kevin Simmons to a "Happening" that they were helping you make take place at Eastern, that actually included a visit and talk by Corita Kent. I feel particularity privileged to have met her and heard her speak that evening -- and it was because of you. And then when I was in High School and spent most of every one of my High School hours in the Art Department, I was privileged to get to talk with you nearly every day. You even created a program where the Eames were there to speak on design. We were all very lucky to have you. Thanks Fitz, for everything. I miss you and your brilliant leadership in the Arts.

My fondest memory of Fitz is seeing him opening day at the US Open Tennis in Flushing Meadow. It seems that we would bump into each other for many years. I looked forward to seeing him there. It seemed to be the official end of summer for the both of us. He was a wonderful teacher and person who will be greatly missed.

The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.
