

Martin, John J., 83, died Sunday, October 5, 2014 in Greenwich CT.
Born in NYC on July 11, 1931, he was a long time resident of Greenwich CT and a long time employee of
Lone Star Industries in Greenwich and Stamford, from which he retired in 1996 as VP, Secretary and
General Counsel.
A 1967 graduate of NYU law school, he was a member of the NY & CT bars and admitted before the US
Supreme Court, for which he appeared before on October 6, 1976. Prior to joining Lone Star, Mr. Martin
was an attorney for the former law firm Naylon, Arrenson, Huber & Magill (NYC) and Bangor Punta
Corporation, as Assistant Secretary & General Counsel, in Greenwich CT.
Shortly after graduating high school from St. Nicholas of Tolentine in the Bronx (1949), he was on active
duty during the Korean War (1951 – 1953), earning an Honorable discharge from the Army reserve in
1960. He met and married Marilyn Hughes, his beloved wife of 59 years, who survives him.
Mr. Martin is also survived by his sister, Joan Lemise of Easton MD, his son John Jr., his wife Maureen of Fairfield CT, his daughter Kieran, her
husband William, of Wyckoff NJ, his son Robert, his partner Bob, of Bridgeport CT, and his son Paul of
NYC. He is also the loving Grandfather of 8 Grandchildren, Megan, Christopher, Jack, Matthew,
Meredith, Andrew, Shaun and Stefan, as well as one Great grandchild, Finley, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A beloved husband, father and friend, Mr. Martin had a passion for reading, the NY Giants and Yankees,
as well as golf. He was a long time member of Burning Tree Country Club in Greenwich CT.
Funeral Services will be held at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral home, 2900 Summer Street,
Stamford, CT on Wednesday, October 8, 2014. Viewing hours will be from
2 – 4pm, and 7- 9pm. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 11 am at St. Michael
the Archangel Church, 469 North Street, Greenwich CT (www.Stmichaelgreenwich.com).
