

JACK MURPHY, 73, passed away Wednesday, June 6th at Stamford Hospital in Stamford, CT due to complications from kidney failure. He was the son of the late John Murphy and Mary Toner Murphy, who immigrated to the United States from Ireland in the early 20th century. Born and raised in New York City, Jack met his wife, Sheila Neyland Murphy, while they were in their teens. They just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 2nd. Jack and his wife lived and raised their family in Scarsdale, NY. After 38 years, they relocated to Stamford in 2009. Jack served in the US Army Reserve from 1961 to 1967 and graduated from Iona College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He was employed by IBM for 37 years in management, market research and administrative analyst positions until his retirement in 1992. During retirement, Jack worked for the Metropolitan PGA assisting with junior golf events and at Old Oaks Country Club in Purchase, NY fulfilling his passion for golf. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing in the Tri-State area, as well as in Palm Beach, FL. He was not adverse to giving advice and tips to his fellow golf buddies.
Jack doted on his 4 grandchildren enjoying their school functions and cheering them on at sporting events while he was able.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Kathleen Murphy Fenlon. Jack is survived by his wife, Sheila, three children, Diana Murphy of Morristown, NJ, Gary Murphy and his wife, Renee of Old Greenwich, CT, Leanne Lake and her husband, Edward of Morristown, NJ. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Emily Murphy, Garrett Murphy, Jack Lake, Lauren Lake, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Leo P Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Monday June 11, 2012 from 4-8pm. There will be a funeral mass at Sacred Heart Church in Stamford. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
