John E. Naughton

Born in Manhattan in 1933, John moved to the Bronx as a child and spent most of his life there. He grew up in the Clason Point neighborhood and graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School. He served his country in the United States Army as a member of the 17th Armored Engineer Battalion, 2nd Armored Division, stationed in Dexheim, West Germany, from 1954 to 1956.

A long-time resident of Schuylerville, John was a faithful communicant of St. Benedict's Roman Catholic Church for decades, and, in his later years, was a parishioner of St. Leo’s Parish in Stamford, Connecticut. He was particularly proud of his reign as king of the former Cresthaven Country Club in Whitestone, New York.

John was predeceased by his parents, Mary Ellen (Gilmore) Naughton and Patrick J. Naughton, and by his brother, Edward P. Naughton.

He is survived by his loving niece, Diane M. Naughton (Michael McGarty) of Stamford, Connecticut; his nephews, Edward J. Naughton of Charlestown, Massachusetts, and Laurence P. Naughton (Maura) of Cohasset, Massachusetts; his sister-in-law Katherine Naughton of Bethpage, New York and his cherished great-nieces and great-nephews, Lucy, Katie, Chloe, Eli, Megan, and Brian, all of whom brought him great pride and joy.

John loved animals, singing with his men’s chorus, and, above all, enjoying a good time. His grand-nieces and grand-nephews especially loved his sense of humor. John will be remembered for his steadfast faith, his devotion to his family, his generosity towards all, and his lifelong connection to the Bronx. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford, CT on Friday, September 11, from 9:15 AM to 10:30 AM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 11, at 11:00 AM, at St. Leo’s Church, 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford, CT, with interment following at St. Raymond’s Cemetery in the Bronx.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice or to a Catholic charitable organization in John's memory.
