Joseph Tolla

Joseph Salvatore “Big Joe” Tolla entered into eternal rest on April 19th, 2014 at Norwalk Hospital at the age of 50. Joseph was born on February 25th, 1964 to parents Salvatore and Helen Tolla (Wozdusiewicz). A longtime Stamford resident, “Joey” was a graduate of Stamford High School and he briefly worked as a custodian at the Board of Education. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church and Knights of Columbus in Stamford. An avid New York Rangers fan, Joey enjoyed hanging out with friends and family. He had a special talent to light up every room with his warm and friendly smile and brightened everyone’s day with his crazy jokes and wonderful words of wisdom. He was a loving and trustful brother, uncle, and friend who could turn any situation into a ray of sunshine. He was a loyal and devoted brother and friend who shared funny stories or would just sit and listen or give a great big bear hug. He will be missed and loved by all who knew him.

Joey is survived by his sister, Margaret Tolla Speight and her husband Ivey Lee Speight Sr., a nephew, Ivey (Christopher) Speight Jr., a niece, Anna Speight, and cousins, Jane Wozdusiewicz, Ann Wozdusiewicz and Mary Richardson, all of whom are from Stamford. He also leaves his Aunt Barbara and several other cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, his aunt Jeanette Fidelie and uncle John Tolla.

Friends and relatives are invited to call at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St. Stamford, CT 06905 on Thursday April 24th from 4pm to 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Ave Stamford, CT on Friday, April 25th at 10:30am. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery in Darien.
