Kathleen McConnell DeCew, 76, devoted teacher
Kathleen McConnell DeCew died peacefully on Thursday, January 31, 2013, of congestive heart failure and cardio-pulmonary arrest. Kathi was born in the Throgs Neck section of the Bronx, NY on April 4, 1936, the third daughter of Alice I. (Flanangan) and Francis P. McConnell. She received a degree in Elementary Education from Fordham University and taught 4th grade for many years at Chatsworth Avenue School in Larchmont, NY. She loved her students. She married Richard DeCew and lived many years in Stamford, CT and Wainscott, NY. Most recently she lived in Stratford, CT. She loved travel and toured the U.S., Europe, the Far East, the western coast of South America and warm islands in winter with enthusiasm. Famous for her abundant cookie Christmas gifts and her sharp sense of humor, she enjoyed crossword puzzles and the theater. Pre-deceased by her husband Dick, she is survived by her stepson Bobby, six siblings including Regina David, Alice G McConnell, Peter McConnell, Patricia Phillips Galvan, Meredith Elmore, Dorothy Giersch and many nieces and nephews.

My cousin Kathi was a spirited, fun and wonderful lady! I always think of her with a big smile on her face, and it is comforting to consider how many children's lives Kathi influenced in the best of ways. God bless Kathi McConnell DeCew.

I am saddened to hear of Kathy's passing.It was a joy to know her and visit her lovely home twice a month. I will always remember her as a kind and generous woman. I will truly miss her.
