

Passed away at the age of 87. A resident of Shippan Point, Stamford for 39 years, he died in serenity at Stamford Hospital, surrounded by his loving wife, son and caregiver after living with Parkinson’s Disease for nineteen years. Born on March 1, 1924, he was the son of Florence Baumoel Weil of New York City and Alvin Weil of Memphis, TN, who predeceased him as did his brother, John. He was born in Montgomery, AL and grew up there, in Memphis and in New York City. He was a graduate of Phillips Academy, Exeter, NH and Yale University, class of ‘45W. He was very proud to have been a veteran of the Second World War, United States Navy and saw combat as a communications officer during the invasion of Okinawa. After the surrender, he served on a minesweeper clearing the waters of Tokyo Bay and spent time there during the occupation of Japan. After returning stateside, he was stationed in New Orleans in the Shore Patrol. He retired from the USN Reserves after ten years with the rank of Lt., j.g. He finished Yale after three years of active duty. He spent many years after that working as a stockbroker in New York and retired as a Sr. Vice President from Smith Barney in 2000.
With a wry sense of humor and always a raconteur and repeater of other people’s jokes, he enjoyed following and discussing the stock market every day, playing golf, tennis and Bridge, sitting by the sea and singing and playing the piano, the latter of which he was still doing twice a day until the day before his death. He also composed many witty songs, both music and lyrics.
He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Granat Weil and son, Andrew Kenneth Weil and his wife, Jeannette Aniceto Weil, also his mother-in-law, Virginia Dammann Granat, whose 100th birthday he celebrated only two weeks ago, his brother-in-law, Robert L. Granat, his spouse, Al Mazur and his long time caregivers, Fredy and Carlos.
The family would like to thank the staff and doctors at Stamford Hospital Emergency Room for the kind and wonderful care they took of Ken and his family during his last difficult hours.
Funeral services will be held at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford on Wednesday, April 6th at 10:00 am. Burial will be private at Long Ridge Union Cemetery in Stamford. Calling hours will be from 4-7 pm on Tuesday April 5th at the funeral home.
