Lila Graubart Croen died on Tuesday February 24th, 2026 just a few weeks shy of her 96th birthday. She was a loving and beloved wife of 70 years to her husband Walter who predeceased her in 2021. She was dearly loved and admired by so many family and friends from many parts of her life. She is survived by her children Judith Croen, Kenneth and Sindy Croen, Thomas Croen and Lisa Croen Quaid, and Susan and Dahni Nisinzweig. Her grandchildren are Evan Croen and Katherine Guilick, Eliza and James King, Eytan, Rivka, Yaelle and Elizabeth Nisinzweig, and Robin and Madeline Croen. She has two wonderful great grandchildren Micah and Wren.
Lila graduated from Syracuse University in 1950 and attended Columbia University for a Masters Program in Education and Statistics. She and Walter raised their family in Edgemont, NY where she was very active in school and community committees. Lila worked at Albert Einstein College of Medicine for 20 years as Director of Research and Evaluation. In her retirement she and Walter moved to NYC near Lincoln Center, taking full advantage of the cultural, educational, and social life the city had to offer. In 2018 they moved to Stamford, CT to be close to their children. Lila continued her lifelong passion for learning and participation in community by attending lectures, courses, community meetings, concerts, and enjoying the many opportunities offered by the Stamford Senior Center. To the end of her life she continued to show up to marches and protests in Stamford to express her support for human rights and democracy. She was an extraordinarily intelligent and compassionate person who was a role model for many, and she will be deeply missed!
