Lucille was born on March 20, 1927 in Santa Rosa, California, to the late Frank J. Kindle and Laura (Pfefferle) Kindle. Lucille cherished her visits to Yosemite National Park with her parents and sister, and it remained one of her favorite places throughout her life. She grew up in Berkeley, California and graduated from UC Berkeley with a Phi Beta Kappa key, of which she was very proud.
Lucille and her late husband, Tom, met at a USO dance in San Francisco in the late 1940s, when he was stationed in the US Navy. After exchanging many letters, they married in California before making the cross-country journey back to Connecticut, where Tom was beginning his career in electrical engineering. They moved to Stamford in 1956.
Besides her busy home life raising six children, Lucille had several part-time secretarial jobs and volunteered at the Ferguson Library and at Red Cross bloodmobiles. She enjoyed traveling through the US and Europe with her husband, and later with friends. She was a long-time member of the Roxbury Swim and Tennis Club, where she enjoyed playing competitive tennis for many years. Lucille was known for her creative spirit, often crafting gingerbread houses during the holidays that her children and grandchildren would decorate. She also loved to bake, creating beautiful cakes for birthdays, weddings, and special occasions. A skilled Contract Bridge player, Lucille spent many enjoyable hours playing cards with close friends.
For the past three years, Lucille has resided at Waterstone on High Ridge in Stamford, where she was well cared for and surrounded by a community that held her in high regard. She will be remembered for her success in Trivia, Scrabble, and Chess.
She is survived by her children: Barbara Flynn (Carl Starr) of New Hampshire, Kate Flynn of Rhode Island, Michael Flynn of Connecticut, John Flynn (Angie) of Colorado, Nancy Reedy (Larry) of Maryland, and Tom Flynn (Jessica) of California. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Maura Kelly, Joseph Scattergood, Abby Avila, Sierra Flynn, Alexandra Flynn, Darrin Reedy, and Elroy Flynn, along with one great-grandson, Malcolm Avila.
Lucille was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Francis Flynn, who died in 1999 after 49 years of marriage; her sister, Ruth Jensen, who died in 2001; and her son-in-law, Thomas Scattergood, who died in 2021. A celebration of Lucille's life will be held at Waterstone Senior Living, 215 High Ridge Road, Stamford, on September 27, 2025 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
