

Margaret E. Cottone, 89, died February 28, 2013 at home at Edgehill retirement community. Born December 20, 1923 in London, England, she was a resident of Stamford for 60 years. Predeceased by parents, Arthur John and M. Enid Sutton and brother Peter, all of England.
Survived by three children, daughter Betty Stefanik (Jay) of Stamford, older daughter Patricia Kuznitz of St. Louis, and son John Cottone (Dawn) of Torrington. Also, grandchildren, Jeffrey (Karmen), Michele (Aaron), Tara (Sam), Megan, Casey (Joseph), Daniel, and Emily. Also great-grandchildren Hayleigh, Breanna, Tyler, Alexander and Benjamin.
Beloved wife of sixty years to Joseph Cottone who greeted her in heaven after six years of being apart. A member of the British Army Auxiliary Territorial Service, they met at an Army dance and it was love at first sight. Despite duties of war, they exchanged loving letters-his to “My Darling Dearest Margaret,” and married in London in 1946.
She worked as a realtor, also for U.S. Tobacco and retired from the Stamford Board of Education.
She had a love for art, and painting and shared this love with friends and family through her own paintings, which were featured in an annual calendar for the Bennett Cancer Center, where she participated in art therapy classes.
Thanks to Dr. Cathrine Troy her long-time physician who called her “miracle lady.” And to all the people at Edgehill who knew and loved her.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, March 3, 2013 from 2-5 pm at Gallagher and Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford CT. A Funeral service will be held Monday, March 4, 2013, 10:30 am at Christ Church, 254 East Putnam Ave., Greenwich, CT. Burial will follow at Putnam Cemetery.
