Margaret (Peggy) B. Thorstensen, age 87, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2010, at her home in Stamford. Margaret was born on June 16, 1922 in Philadelphia, PA, to Michael and Catherine. She then moved to Katonah, NY, married and then relocated to Nantucket, MA for a short time before settling in Stamford. She was married to the late Arnt Thorstensen and enjoyed a wonderful marriage of sixty years.
She enjoyed entertaining and her house was always the center of every celebration and the Irish music was always playing. Her family always came first. As her family grew her grandchildren brought her the most joy. Throughout her life she loved dancing, cooking, gardening, broadway shows, and music, especially her Irish songs. She was Nana to many children that she took care of. She was a member of the Sons of Norway Skagum Lodge. She was a member of the St. Gabriel’s Parish for many years and a Eucharistic minister.
Margaret was the most wonderful, loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend and soon to be great grandmother. Margaret is survived by her daughters, Linda Wilt, Debra Ponticello and her husband Alfred of Stamford. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Kimberly Galazin; grandsons, Michael (Julie) and Marc Ponticello of Stamford and Joseph Ponticello (Suzanne) of Norwalk. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Arnt and brothers Michael and William and sisters Anne and Frances.
A special thank you to our caregivers who were always by her side, Carol and Maria. The family would like to express its deep appreciation and thanks to the staff of Visiting Nurse Hospice, Joe, Jenny, Francoise and Alice for their kindness and excellent care to Margaret over the past year.
Her family will receive friends on Thursday, February 18, 2010, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street in Stamford. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Gabriel’s Church, Newfield Avenue in Stamford on Friday, February 19, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at St. John’s Cemetery in Darien.
