
Mary E. Hedges (Gemzer), formerly of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully at Waveny Care Center on Thursday, September 8, 2016. She was 85 years old. Mary was one of six children born to Frank and Mary Gemzer of Mansfield, Ohio. She graduated from St. Peter’s High School, Mansfield, Ohio and St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana with a Bachelor of Science. Mary earned a Master’s Degree in Nursing Education from St. John’s University in New York City. She retired after 30 years as a Registered Nurse and Head of Nursing Education at Mount Carmel Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann Hedges Zucker (Michael) of Stamford and three grandchildren, Benjamin Zucker, Robert Zucker and Christina Hedges (Jennie), her sister, Gloria Bennett of Purcilleville, Virginia and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Bruce Hedges, her husband and the father of her two children, Robert Hedges, her second husband, Alfred Pax, her sisters, Clara Davis and Dorothy Friend and her brothers, Leonard Gemzer and Paul Gemzer.
A mass of Christian burial will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday September 17, 2016 at Holy Spirit Church, 403 Scofieldtown Rd, Stamford, CT. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation in Mary’s name to: Waveny LifeCare, 3 Farm Road, New Canaan, CT 06902.
