Michael J. Noone , Sr.

MICHAEL J. NOONE, SR. – 85, formerly of Normandy Beach, New Jersey, died on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 in Stamford Hospital. Born in the Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late Patrick and Mary (nee Burke) Noone. He was the loving father of Michael Noone and Meghan Baier and the beloved father-in-law of Mary Alice and Monte. He was also the devoted grandfather of Michael, Matthew, Timmy, and Brian Noone, and Bridget and Monte Baier. He was the beloved brother of Austin and the late Thomas Noone and Nora Gillen.

Mike was a combat Marine, serving in the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart for being wounded serving his country. A graduate of Iona College, he was a long-time employee of Xerox Corp. retiring as a Sales Manager and Manager of Education.

Mike dedicated his time to the communities in which he lived, including being elected twice to the District 8 School Board in the Bronx, serving as Treasurer and Chairman, as well as being a member of the District Planning Board. In his New Jersey community, Mike was very active in a number of organizations including the Purple Heart Association, the Loyal Order of Moose in Ortley Beach, the Brick Elks and the American Legion Post 348.

He was a proud Irishman with a bigger than life personality who loved to laugh and make friends wherever he went. However, for the past 22 years, Mike’s true passion was anything related to his grandchildren – he was particularly proud of any academic achievements and sporting activities that they engaged in.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, August 16 at 11 am. Internment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY. Friends and family are invited to call from 2-4pm and 7-9pm on Monday, August 15 at the Leo P. Gallagher and Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford.
