Mildred Melvin Christine Hall Whittington – loving known as “Melt” by family and “Millie” by her friends passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2010 after a brief illness. Mildred was born October 4, 1945 in Snow Hill, North Carolina and became a longtime resident of Stamford, Connecticut where she lived for more than 45 years. Mildred was a retired employee of the United States Postal Service at Ridgway Postal Station in Stamford; an avid bowler who enjoyed her leagues and tournaments; a passionate New York Yankee baseball fan; Also a deeply religious person who was member of Stamford Baptist Church for many years; she will be remembered as a loving and caring person who was beautiful on the inside as well as the outside. The most important thing in her life was her family and predeceased by her mother Mittie Beatrice Ormond Hall of Snow Hill, North Carolina. Mildred is survived by her husband Girley Devon Whittington a retired Amtrak employee and US Marine/US Army Veteran of Stamford, Connecticut; son – G. Furess Whittington and daughter-in-law Angeline, grandchildren Kaitlin Arrianna, Marcus Furess and Shannon Ashley and great grandchildren, Kiera and Harry Jr, “KJ” – and son Eric Benedict Devon Whittington of Fort Collins, Colorado; father Douglas L. Hall of Snow Hill NC; and step-daughters Michele Dixon of New Canaan, CT and Veronica Bethea of South Carolina; sisters - Constance Hall of Indianhead, MD; Edna Hall Davis and Leona Hall Peoples both of Clinton, MD; Connie Hall Speight of Fort Washington, MD; Eddie Dean Hall of Snow Hill, NC; Dazzerine Hall and Annie Hall Baker both of Washington, DC; Eveleyne Hall Joyner of Danbury, CT; aunts – Gonnie Gorham and Mattie Lyons both of Farmville NC; uncle Moses Hall of Farmville NC; brother-in-laws – Thurman Davis, Henry Joyner and James Brown, Jr.; sister-in-law – Terry Hall; and over 30 nieces and nephews with whom she had a very special bond. Please come join her family and friends for a Memorial Service at Stamford Baptist Church in Stamford Connecticut located at 602 High Ridge Road, on Saturday, Jul 31, from 10:00am to 11:00am, with a reception immediately following the service in the church’s Fellowship Hall.
