Osby McMillan Jr., 73, of Stamford, Connecticut passed away on Friday August 5th at his home. Osby was born on July 18th, 1949 in Harlem, NY to Emma and Osby McMillan Sr. Osby is survived by his wife Dr. Yvonne Carmen Powell, his daughter Safiya Lynn McMillan and numerous cousins.
Osby grew up in Harlem, NY where he was active in the Boy Scouts of America. After graduating from the Dewitt Clinton High School, he attended Howard University where he received his Bachelor’s degree. He continued his education at the New York University Stern School of Business for graduate school. Osby always had a passion for business. He worked in corporate for over three decades, most notably at PepsiCo as the Vice President of Global Can Procurement. Eminently qualified, he was highly respected by his colleagues. Although quiet in speech, Osby’s words had a great impact on those around him.
Osby was an honorable man who was as serious as he was funny, and a known team player. Throughout his career and especially in retirement Osby was committed to helping others. It is no surprise that while at PepsiCo, he was president of the Black Employees association. Osby mentored children of all ages, focusing on tutoring and tennis programs for kids throughout the area. Osby was a member of the 100 Black Men where he served in several positions on the board. After he retired from PepsiCo in 2006, he became the Chairman of the Board for the Yerwood Center and Vice President of The Stamford Youth Tennis Academy. He was also a member of the USTA, USGA and a founding member of the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
Osby enjoyed traveling, tennis, golf, collecting art, being near the water, photography, classic cars and animals. He will especially miss watching Law & Order SVU, Ray Donovan and CNN.
We will be celebrating his life on Saturday August 20th at the First United Method Church of Stamford at 42 Cross Road at 10 a.m.
