Pamela Armstrong Manchester

Born to Sylvia E. Shepard and Henry Clay Armstrong, Pamela was raised in Wisconsin and moved to Florida as a teenager. She attended the University of Florida and later moved to New York City. Pamela’s deep interest in health care and mental health services eventually led her to a career in psychoanalysis. In 1994, she completed a master’s degree in psychoanalytic studies from the Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies, and then maintained a psychotherapy practice based in New York City. From 2010 to 2012, she was president of the National Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis.

Pamela married Avery Manchester on July 20, 1986 and the couple moved to Greenwich, CT. Pamela loved her dog, Nimbus, and her cats, Char and Kitty, as well as going for walks near the cottage she and Avery kept in coastal Maine. She was a member of the Bad River Band of Chippewa. Pamela is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Avery. She is survived by her cousin,

Charles Armstrong of Michigan, as well as by Avery’s children from a previous marriage.
