OBITUARY

Peter Paul Faruggio

October 31, 1937January 7, 2014

Peter Paul Faruggio 76, of Yonkers, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday January 7, 2013 at home in Sand Key, FL comforted by his wife. He was born on October 31, 1937 in Yonkers, NY to Helen and Peter Faruggio.

He and his beloved wife, Barbara, were married for 53 years . Peter was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend to all. He is remembered for his quick wit, unassuming presence and engaging smile.

Peter was extremely loving and proud of his three daughters, Deborah Faruggio, of Westport, CT, Diane Nielsen and her husband Bill of Kingwood, TX and Mary McElwain and her husband Rick of Clearwater Beach, FL. He is also survived by his sister, Marion Thomas, eleven grandchildren: Ashley, Blake, Breiton, Chad, Cody, Danielle, Liza, Luke, Glenn, Ryan and Will and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. He graduated from Saunders Trades and Technical High School in Yonkers, NY and decided early on to pursue a career in law enforcement. Peter served on the White Plains Police Department as a police officer for 20 years. He held several positions in the Patrol Division and retired as Court Officer in 1979.

Peter then enjoyed a successful entrepreneurial career in retail as co-owner of two stores specializing in antique and vintage items.

Peter was a wonderful provider to his family, a responsibility he valued highly as a husband and father. His family considers this attribute an inspiring and loving gift that defined so much of who he was . Throughout his second career, Peter found time to enjoy extensive travel with his wife, family and friends. Excursions most enjoyed were the Grand Canyon, the Caribbean Islands, the California coast and Alaska.

After living most of his life in Yonkers, he relocated full time to his beloved New Jersey Shore with his wife in 1985. There he spent the next 20 years enjoying the beach with his family, long walks at sunrise, surf fishing with the guys and weekly trips to Atlantic City with his "poker buddies". Among the fondest memories for his family are "early morning" crabbing, seafood feasts and evenings at the boardwalk.

In 2006, Peter became a snow bird and migrated to Sand Key (Clearwater Beach), FL for the winter months. He welcomed family and friends to his "winter beach", appreciated the glory of every sunset and enjoyed dinner, dancing and camaraderie at the Italian American Club.

Peter was an avid coin collector. Throughout his later years, Barbara and he devoted several hours every day working together to add to his collection.

Those wishing to pay their respects to Peter are invited to join the Family on Friday January 24 at Leo Gallagher & Sons Funeral Home in Stamford, CT www.leopgallagherstamford.com from 12:00 – 3 pm and 5 to 8 pm. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Saturday January 25 at St. Mary's Church in Stamford, CT. Interment will be at Oakland Cemetery, Yonkers, NY
