

Ralph Lotstein died peacefully on October 14th at Stamford Hospital in Stamford, Connecticut. Ralph was born April 5th, 1927 to his immigrant parents Samuel and Anna Lotstein. Ralph grew up on Lafayette Street along with his five brothers and one sister. He attended Stamford High School and then served in the U.S. Navy.
Ralph met his sweetheart and lifelong best friend Gloria Newman who lived downstairs in their two family house. In 1950 they married at the Stamford Jewish Center. They were happily married for over 65 years.
Ralph’s lifelong home and business address was Stamford, Connecticut. Along with his family he helped shape the Stamford community. The Lotstein family business included Grancentral Supermarkets and The Hartford Provision Company.
He especially enjoyed working with his hands, taking pride in his home and yard. Many summers were spent captaining his yacht, Dreamgirl, with his family and friends on Long Island Sound, Lake Champlain and the waters of Cape Cod. As a young father winters were spent up north skiing. He shared memories of his vacations through his beautiful photographs.
He volunteered at the Jewish Home for the Aged and taught safe driving skills to senior citizens.
In retirement Ralph and Gloria went south for the warmth of Del Ray.
He was known by all for his gentle and kind nature. His generosity and willingness to help others was felt by many.
Ralph is survived by his wife Gloria and four children Leslie Sternburg and her husband Robert Mazzola of Hingham, MA, Steven and Linda Lotstein of Stamford, CT, Jeffrey Lotstein of Simsbury, CT and Richard and Jennifer Lotstein of Hartford, CT. He had 10 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
A Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Agudath Shalom Synagogue, 301 Strawberry Hill Avenue, Stamford, CT. Interment will follow at the Agudath Shalom cemetery, 550 West Hill Road, Stamford, CT. .
