
Born in Buffalo, New York, Richard was the son of Albert Julius Gross and Alice M. Towart. He grew up in Port Washington, NY with his younger sister Leila. He graduated from Port Washington High School and went to college at the Philadelphia Institute of Textiles.
His first job was with Burlington Mills traveling in Europe for sales. While in Budapest, Hungary he married Georgiana Zalavari and they moved to New York City. They had 2 sons, Richard Albon and Scott Christopher, before moving to Stamford, CT. They then had a daughter Amy Mellissa.
Affectionately known as Dickie by colleagues and friends, he commuted into New York City where he began working for Alice Mills Textiles as a marketing manager selling textiles in the garment industry. He remained at Alice Mills for his entire career finally retiring in 2007.
He was a spiritual man, a member of ECC church in Stamford for decades. He loved studying scripture and enjoyed classical Christian music.
He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, cyclist, and hunter. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He leaves behind 7 grandkids: Mauricio, Marissa, Holly and Ricky from Amy; Alice, Emma and AJ from Scott. He passed on September 24, 2025 at the age of 91. He will be dearly missed by all that knew him for his warm sense of humor and unconditional love.
A memorial gathering for Richard will be held Friday, October 3, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford, CT 06905.
