Well, this is a day I won't soon forget. Earlier today I learned of the passing of a former mentor, Ed Tierney, which prompted me to think about two people who, along with Ed, provided invaluable professional guidance during my early years as a consultant in the New York office of Towers Perrin. That recollection led me to reach out to another of those mentors, Rod Marathe man who hired me into Towers Perrin and who was my boss for nearly four years. I just got off the phone with his wife, June; during our conversation, she filled me in that Rod, too, had passed this year. In fact, he and Ed died within 10 days of one another in June. I'm gob-smacked. Rod taught me more about benefits and communication than anyone elselessons that resonate yet today. In fact, I quoted Rod in a new business meeting earlier this week. RIP Rodyou were a great man and a great boss, and I'm forever thankful for the opportunity you gave me to come to New York and to work with you. Truly, an opportunity of a lifetime.

Kevin Mara: remembers leaving Papa"s funeral with Rod getting very lost in Rhode Island afterwards
Neil Mara: remembers fun beach days at the Cape
Kathleen Mara Roberts: remembers visiting Rod and June in New York with her friend from college and they took a limo to dinner because it was raining!
Our thoughts and prayers go out to you June. Hopefully as grief abates, happy memories will bring you comfort.

Praying for peace for you and the family, Mrs. Mara. The Lord is Good, and He is in charge now. May God rest mr. Mara's soul.
