Ronald P. Fischetti

Born in Brooklyn, NY on May 25, 1936, he was the son of Anthony Fischetti and Florence Oppedisano. He graduated from St. John’s University and St. John’s University School of Law and practiced criminal defense for 60 years, most recently as partner in the Manhattan firm of Fischetti & Malgieri. He was admitted to several state and federal bars, including the United States Supreme Court, with professional affiliations that included the presidency of the New York Council of Defense Lawyers, Visiting Professor of Trial Advocacy at Harvard, Yale, and New York University Schools of Law, and a teaching position on the adjunct faculty of Fordham University School of Law for 35 years. An esteemed practitioner, instructor, and leader in the field of criminal defense, he earned the respect of colleagues, judges, and clients in a career representing high-profile clients ranging from nationally-known defendants, judges, members of Congress, and a former President. He was a frequent spokesperson for various broadcast and print media outlets in both the NY metropolitan and national markets.

He was a congregant of the parish of St. Cecilia and an avid golfer and longtime member of Winged Foot Golf Club. He will be remembered for his wit, generosity, sense of humor, and master story-telling ability accrued from decades in front of juries and student audiences.

He is survived by his beloved wife and sweetheart of 66 years of marriage, Rae Coiro Fischetti, his son Anthony T. (Kelly) Fischetti, Yorktown Heights, NY, his son Ronald P. Fischetti, Jr., Stamford, CT, his daughter Lisa Bell, Stamford, CT, his sister Florence Walensky, Boynton Beach, FL, and his adored granddaughters, Jordan Rae Fischetti, Emily Bell, Caroline Bell, and Katie Bell.

His funeral mass will be Thursday, November 30th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecilia Church, 1184 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, CT. A private burial and interment will follow at St. John Cemetery, Darien, CT.
