Ruby Leach-Robinson was born on June 15, 1947 in St. Lucia; however, she was raised by her parents, Lillian King and Goulbourne King, in Barbados. She was the eldest of seven children. Shortly after completing her schooling at the age of 16, she decided she wanted a career in healthcare and boldly moved to London, England to study nursing. There, she became reacquainted with Orville Grimes, a gentleman from her home country and her future first husband. They had three children: Marcellus Grimes, Marius Grimes, and Ronald Grimes. Longing to be closer to her parents and siblings that migrated to the United States, she moved to Stamford, Connecticut in the 1970s. She worked as a nurse for many years, but she wanted to spend more time with her children. As a result, she decided to create her own business, a nursing agency. She became a staple in the community, providing people with job opportunities in the healthcare industry and offering care for those most in need.
Sadly, she was heartbroken when she became a widow in 2002. However, she found love again when she met Lenworth Robinson. The two married and moved to Covington, Georgia in 2006. Not one to be idle, she saw an opportunity to care for others. She opened a personal care home, a facility providing room and boarding and care for people with medical needs that are incapable of living alone. She became embedded in the community.
Ruby was a kind-hearted person, she enjoyed entertaining, socializing, helping others, education, and cooking. In addition, she loved music. She’d sing loudly, often times off key, and dance unabashedly. She and her sister, Lorna, could be found buying lottery tickets, at a casino, or shopping. She enjoyed spending time with loved ones. She served as a mother figure to many nieces, nephews, and young people. She enjoyed gardening; however, that plant was on its own if she thought she saw a worm. She was a proud Grandmother, and cherish the time spent with her grandchildren. Her home was an open door welcoming all. If she had a place to stay, you had a place to stay. If she had a meal, you had a meal.
She is survived by her husband, Lenworth Robinson; her sons, Marcellus Grimes, Marius Grimes, and Ronald Grimes; her father; Goulbourne King, her grandchildren, Tasmin Mc Caskie, Tyrell Grimes, Tatum Grimes, Savannah Lewis, Saniyah Grimes, and Sophia Grimes; her siblings Bernard, Linda, Sandra, Margaret, and Cynthia, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins.
She was predeceased by her mother, Lillian King, and her sister, Lorna Carrington.
