

Florida. She was 73. Born in Long Beach, New York to the late Edna and Steve
Strauss, she graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Queens College and taught
elementary school. Widowed at 44, she lost her cherished young husband, Mel,to cancer. A longtime community volunteer, she had been a former National Board Member and Life Member of the National Council of Jewish Women;
President of the Stamford, CT Section of NCJW; President of the Center Women of the Stamford Jewish Community Center; devoted member of and volunteer for Hevreh of Southern Berkshire; and, a Tanglewood summer volunteer. She was extraordinarily proud of her beloved children Andrew and Donna Goldberg of Greenwich, Connecticut; Stacy and Jim Mahon of Ellicott City, Maryland; Dr. Wendy and Reuven Carlyle of Seattle, Washington. She adored her eight
grandchildren Adi, Max, Liat, Zev, Zoe, Olivia, Arin and Nava and was devoted to her cousins, Cathi Robinson, Robyn and Barry Fleet and Uncle Shep Fleet.
An extraordinarily good friend and listener, Sandy was a wise advisor,voracious reader, passionate bridge player, cultural arts aficionado and world traveler. She will be missed by her family and the hundreds of friends she
made throughout her contributing life. A Memorial Service honoring Sandy's memory will be held on Friday, November 1, at 10 o’clock a.m., at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford, CT. Interment
will follow at the Fairfield Memorial Park Cemetery, 230 Oaklawn Ave.,
Stamford, CT.
