Sara Whitcomb Lynn, 88 of Stamford, CT died on November 4th, 2015 of natural causes at Long Ridge Post-Acute Care, Stamford. She had also been a resident of Maplewood of Darien since the passing of her husband, David Lynn in 2013. Sara is survived by her 2 sons, David Lynn of San Diego, CA, and Douglas Lynn of Stamford, CT and 5 grandchildren, David Lynn, Reno, NV, Carter Lynn and Katie Lynn of San Diego, Nina Lynn of Guildford, UK, and Kyra Lynn of Stamford, CT.
Sara was born on September 19, 1927 in San Diego, CA to Madge and Floyd Whitcomb and had one younger sister, Nancy May Whitcomb who predeceases her. Sara grew up in San Diego, attending the local public elementary and high schools and UCLA. After college graduation, she returned home to San Diego as a kindergarten teacher in the San Diego school system. During her early years as a teacher, she met her husband, David E. Lynn, then a US Naval officer stationed in San Diego. Upon marriage in San Diego on October 15, 1955, Sara and Dave moved to Larchmont, NY where Sara once again became a kindergarten teacher and they raised their sons. Sara was one of the most loving, caring, and giving individuals to her children, to her husband, and many, many friends and acquaintances. She would always go out of her way to help someone or to make them feel comfortable. Sara was an ardent supporter of the Junior League of Stamford/Norwalk, the First Presbyterian Church, Stamford, The Tri Delta Sorority, the Larchmont Yacht Club, and especially her “Stitch and Sew” group of closest friends.
Above all else, Sara’s uncanny piano playing ability made her an ever-popular favorite at parties and gatherings with family, friends, and organizations she was involved in. Indeed, wherever Sara went, if there was a piano, she would make her way over to it, sit down, and begin playing away adding to the ambiance of the occasion in a most welcome way. That will be sorely missed by all and next to impossible to replace.
With her husband and children, Sara also lived in Lake Oswego, OR, and later, in life, in Darien, CT. Wherever Sara settled, a close circle of friends and acquaintances would always grow, leading to many lifelong friendships. Sara was also a Deacon at the First Presbyterian Church, Stamford, and in this capacity, was known for handwriting and mailing birthday cards and event reminders to members of the congregation as her way of promoting fellowship and sense of community around the church. That will be sorely missed.
A Funeral Service for Sara will be held on November 21st at 1030 at the First Presbyterian Church, 1101 Bedford St, Stamford, CT followed by a brief reception at the church. The spreading of her ashes will take place privately. Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, Stamford, CT is handling all arrangements. Should friends desire, contributions, in lieu of flowers, should be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Stamford, CT. Sara lead a life mission of caring, giving, nurturing whomever and whatever she came in touch with.
