Valerie Rachelann Geerer (nee Emond), a longtime resident of Stamford, passed away on October 9, 2025 at the age of 61. Born on November 15, 1963 in New Brunswick, NJ, she was the daughter of Grace and “Jack” Emond. Valerie was a woman whose life was marked by her zest for adventure, indomitable spirit and spending time with those she loved, especially her husband, Michael, to whom she was married for nearly 25 years.
As the daughter of a teacher, she took education very seriously. She excelled in her studies, graduating Pace University with top honors and a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She furthered her educational goals by attaining her CPA license.
After graduating, Valerie joined the prestigious CPA firm Arthur Young. She later used her experience to enter the re-insurance industry, where she eventually became an Assistant Vice-President of Finance at a Berkshire Hathaway subsidiary. O’ Canada!
She will be remembered for her sharp memory. She had become the keeper of the calendar, remembering everyone's birthday, anniversary you name it.
In Michael, Valerie found a kindred spirit whom she could share her love of travel and adventure. Together, they traversed the globe, from bungee jumping in New Zealand, scuba diving the Australian Great Barrier Reef, lazing on the beaches of Hawaii and exploring Germany. She was not above leaving Michael at home to have other adventures with her mother and friends! Their adventures were filled with laughter, love and the creation of cherished memories.
Valerie is preceded in death by her mother and father, Grace and Jack. She is survived by her loving husband, Michael, and stepson, Marc, along with his partner, Cassie, their children Jordan, Austin and their soon-to-be newborn baby girl.
A devout Catholic, Valerie’s faith was a guiding light of her life. Whether attending Mass, saying the Rosary or reading the Bible, Valerie always included the needs of others in her worship. Although she was diagnosed with ALS she refused to give up or give in. With Michael by her side, she fought bravely, continuing to live her life with passion and courage.
Valerie’s angelic smile, humor, grace and bravery will be missed more than words can say. Her passion for helping others are instilled in each of us. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, integrity and friendship that is a blessing and reminder for all of us.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, October 19, 2025 2 pm to 6 pm at Leo P. Gallagher & Son. Funeral Home 2900 Summer St. Stamford CT. Mass will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025 11 am at St Bridget of Ireland RCC 278 Strawberry Hill Ave. Stamford, CT. Internment at St Joseph Cemetery Keyport NJ. Date TBD

“The last few years (or months) have taught me that when it is our time to leave this world no one can stop it. We have one life to live. The material things we invest in are left behind only to be discarded. Memories are important to me.”
