

Mrs. Veronica M. Straka, a long-time resident of Stamford, CT died peacefully at Notre Dame Convalescent Home in Norwalk, CT on July 7, 2011. Mrs. Straka was born January 12, 1916, in Kelayres, PA. She was the wife of the late Anthony G. Straka, who died in 1957. She was one of seven children born to the late Michael Galovich and the late Elizabeth Ondrejcak Galovich, both born in Slovakia.
Mrs. Straka worked in a number of office, factory and home settings for many years. The daughter of a building contractor, she ran a lumber yard in McAdoo, PA during World War II. Mrs. Straka was an active member of the Roman Catholic Church and was involved in numerous church related activities throughout her life.
Mrs. Straka is survived by a son, Anthony T. Straka, his wife, Perpetua Straka, and their daughter, Ermelinda Dourado, of Wappingers Falls, NY. She is also survived by four nieces and one nephew: Katherine Kryspin of Norwalk, CT; Madeline Grego of McAdoo, PA; Monica Gondek of Pittstown, NJ; Marti Galovic-Palmer of Malibu, CA; and, Steve Hadik of Woolwich, ME.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 11, 2011 from 9 am to 10:30 a.m. at Leo P. Gallagher and Son Funeral Home 2900 Summer St, Stamford, CT. A funeral mass will immediately follow at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church 566 Elm Street, Stamford, CT at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place thereafter at Church of All Saints Cemetery in McAdoo, PA.
