

Vito A. Aulenti departed this life at Stamford Hospital, on Dec 31, 2014. He was born in Stamford, the son of Giuseppe (Joseph) and Maria Rosa Aulenti, on March 28, 1927 and was a lifelong Stamford resident. He is survived by a loving and devoted family, including his wife of 61 years, Constance Gaudiano Aulenti, sons James, Donald, and Frank (Sylvia), and 3 grandsons, Frank V. Aulenti and Gabriel Aulenti, and James Aulenti, Jr. His surviving sisters are Rosalyn Arena of Stamford and Isabelle Broder in Houlton, ME. He was predeceased by brothers John, Michael, Anthony, Joseph, Domenick, and Angelo, and sisters; Mary Cernier, Lillian Avallone, and Filomena. He has many beloved nieces and nephews.
Mr. Aulenti was employed by the Stamford Board of Education serving as Head Custodian at Stamford High School until his retirement in 1989. He served as President of the Custodians, Mechanics and Cafeteria Workers Union Local 1083 here in Stamford where Vito was a champion of organized labor. He further served as Assistant State Commissioner in A.F.C.M.E.’s Council Four.
Mr. Aulenti enlisted in the Army, serving our nation in Italy’s Alpine region.
Vito’s love for baseball was evidenced by his coaching Little League Baseball, Babe Ruth Baseball and serving as Assistant State Commissioner for Babe Ruth Baseball for almost two decades; supervising countless successful all-star tournaments.
Vito was honored by the Stamford Old-Timer’s Association in January, 1988.
Calling hours will be at Leo P. Gallagher Funeral home on Summer St. in Stamford on Monday, Jan 5, from 4-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Maurice Church, 358 Glenbrook Rd, on Tuesday, January 6, at 10:30AM, immediately followed by internment at Queen of Peace Cemetery in Stamford.
