Vivian Beresford

Age 96, passed away Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Smith House Health Care Center in Stamford, CT. She was the only child of the late Edward J. Beresford & Lillian Canders Beresford. Born on September 28, 1914, Vivian lived in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn, NY until moving to Stamford, CT in 2007.

Vivian attended St. Ephrem parochial school and graduated from St. John’s College with a B.A. degree. She worked for the NY Eye & Ear Infirmary for 35 years where she was the Assistant Administrator until her retirement in 1980.

Vivian was a lifelong parishioner at St. Ephrem Roman Catholic Church. She was a Eucharistic Minister and a “Lady of the Holy Sepulcher”.

Besides her parents, Vivian was most recently predeceased by her cousin, Brother John Hoffschmidt, OSF in 2006. She is survived by her cousins, Margaret Hoffschmidt MacLennan of Stamford, CT and Col. Michael F. Canders of Nesconset, NY.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Ephrem Church, 929 75th St., Brooklyn, NY on Friday, November 19 at 11:30am with burial immediately following at St. John’s Cemetery in Middle Village, NY. Leo P. Gallagher & Sons, Stamford, CT is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Catholic Charities.
