.Wesley D. Wheeler passed away on Friday, April 18 at 8:40PM at the Stamford Hospital. A small family ceremony will be held on Monday at 10:30AM at the Leo Gallagher Funeral Home in Stamford followed by a burial at the Cypress Hills Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY. He was 80 years old.
Mr. Wheeler worked for 60 years as a Naval Architect & Marine Engineer. He owned his own firm, Wheeler Associates, which followed a long and successful career in the Marine industry. During his career, he lived and worked in dozens of countries and represented some of the world’s largest ship building and ship repair companies in Germany, Spain, Senegal, China, Greece, Malta and France. Mr. Wheeler is a direct descendent of the famed Wheeler Yacht Company and the Wheeler Shipbuilding Corporation of Brooklyn and Bronx, New York. The Wheelers built pleasure yachts and US military ships for over 50 years.
Mr. Wheeler graduated from the University of Michigan with a Master’s degree in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering and from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is survived by his wife Dolores Janes Wheeler of Stamford, his sister Rosalie Maiden, his three children: Wesley P. Wheeler, Jonathan H. Wheeler and Deborah Wheeler Fagerstrom, and seven grandchildren.
A formal service to remember Mr. Wheeler will be held at the 5th Avenue Presbyterian Church. A separate Obituary will announce the details in the April 27th Sunday New York Times.
