William E. Wood Sr.

William E. Wood Sr. 81, formally of Stamford CT , passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday November 27, 2010 at St Joseph ’s Manor in Trumbull , CT. He was the son of the late James and Carolyn Wood and the beloved husband of 54 years to Rebecca Rinehart Wood. He was predeceased by his daughter Charlene Wood Drake and survived by his children Maryellen Zacarolo, of North Carolina , William E. Wood II and his wife Catherine of Shelton, CT, and Sheila Wood-Youngs and her husband Timothy Youngs of Cambria , CA . He has 8 beloved grandchildren Anthony Zacarolo, Joseph Zacarolo, LaChrisa Brown all of North Carolina, William Scott Wood of Stamford, CT, Mark David Wood of Shelton, CT, Danielle Nicole Wood, William E. Wood III and Brandon Joseph Wood, all of Shelton, CT. He is survived by 9 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late James Wood, Julie Hammond, Carolyn Fowler and Shirley Rose. He was a long-standing member of the VFW, and a former volunteer firefighter in Stamford , CT. William served in the United States military from 1947-1953 during that time he fought in the Korean War and was a decorated war veteran. He retired from the United States Postal Service in 2001 and enjoyed his remaining years with his family and friends. Friends may call on Thursday December 2, 2010 from 4-8PM at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10AM on Friday, December 3, 2010 at St. Mary’s Church 566 Elm Street, Stamford .
