She worked for Burlington Industries in Ranlo for 45 years.
Bernice was baptized at Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Shelby at the age of nine in the local creek. She was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Stanley for over 65 years. Bernice taught Sunday school and was a quilter for Prayers and Squares.
Bernice volunteered with Baptist on Missions Disaster Relief and Recovery in Texas, Florida, the North Carolina beaches, Gulfport, Mississippi, Raleigh, Shelby Mission Camp and many other locations. As well as The Greater Gaston Baptist Association, Camp Mundo Vista, The NC Baptist Assembly at Fort Caswell, and Stanley Rescue Squad Women’s Auxiliary.
Bernice enjoyed reading her Bible and good, clean fiction books, sewing and quilting, jigsaw and word puzzles, vegetable and flower gardening, and playing the piano. She loved cooking for guests and taking care of children.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Ernest E. Navey; siblings, Ruby Hamrick, Mildred Wilson, Maria Weaver, Loran Weaver, Willie Weaver, and JE Weaver.
She is survived by her children, Christina Navey Caldwell, Robert “Bob” Navey and wife Julie, and Dianne Navey; grandchildren, Maria Caldwell, Casey Caldwell, Carrie Holland and husband Timothy, Mandie Mosby, Heather Smith and husband Nate, Brenna Blake and husband Jeffrey; great grandchildren, Sara Mosby, Kindle Mosby, Elias Holland, Abigail Holland, Deaglan Blake, and Kai Smith; siblings, Mary Parker, Pete Weaver, Ruth Theis, and Carol Sepaugh.
A visitation will be held from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Stanley, 409 Old Mt. Holly Road, Stanley, NC 28164 with the Celebration of Life Service beginning at 1:00 pm. A committal service will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery.
