Bobby "Jungle" Ray Lane

Bobby "Jungle” Ray Lane, 88, of Belmont, passed away peacefully at home, Saturday, February 8, 2025. Born May 15, 1936, Jungle owned and operated Bob Lane Automotive Machine Shop for over 50 years. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 68 years, Alice Morton Lane, who stayed by his side throughout.

Jungle was a legend in the racing industry and never met a stranger. A self-taught engine builder, he became highly sought after and set the standard for precision engine work in our community. He was always helping local drivers go faster! Jungle's talent and legacy span three generations, with his sons and grandsons entering the automotive arena. He loved all sports, especially the Atlanta Braves, and driving "Blackie" his cherished Ford F-150. However, his best decision was accepting Christ in his later years.

Jungle is predeceased by his two sisters, Shirley Lane Willis and Betty Lane Muse; one brother, RC Lane; son-in-law, David Franklin Simpson; and grandson, Brian David Simpson.

In addition to his wife, Jungle is survived by their children: Debra Lane Simpson; Bobby Lane, Jr. and his wife, Kathy; Robert Lane and his wife, Laurel; and Michael Lane. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Jennifer Simpson; Allison Simpson Williams and her husband, CJ; Ashley Lane Fikes and her husband, Jacob; Kristina Lane McCaskill and her husband, Donny; Christopher Lane; Hayley Lane Suthers and her husband, Daniel; Justin Lane, Jessica Lane, and Max Lane; as well as six great-grandchildren: Emily McGowan and her fiancé, Dario Pellegrino; Christian Fikes; Katie Fikes; Hadleigh Lane; Jameson McCaskill; and Whiteaker Lane Suthers.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 13, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Carothers Funeral Home in Stanley. The celebration of life service will take place on Friday, February 14, at 10:00 a.m. in the Stanley Chapel, with Pastor Richard Boatwright officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens in Mt. Holly.
