Frances Lorraine Helms Palmer, 89, of Stanley, NC, passed away Monday, October 5, 2026, in her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Wingate, North Carolina on July 11, 1937, in her grandmother's house at Lyles Place.
She is the daughter of the late Carl Richardson Helms and Florence M. Helms.
Frances was a loving mother, a devoted grandmother, a cherished great-grandmother and a genuine, virtuous and faithful friend. She was a gentle, kind lady who found joy in serving others in her church and community. Her love of reading permeated every facet of life and even led to starting an exchange library at her doctor’s office. She also devoted many years of volunteer service where she read with children who needed specialized attention. But her biggest passion of all was serving, and leading others to Jesus.
She cherished her Thursday morning Bible study group as they encouraged each other through life's journey until she heard her name called by our Lord God Almighty. She was a true servant of the Lord until the very end, and her absence has left a hole for those who had to stay behind.
Frances’ loving presence left an indelible mark on all those who were near to her. Her love will be missed for generations but will not be forgotten.
Frances is survived by her brother, Wayne Helms of Hemby Bridge, her daughters Sandra Rhoton, JoAnn Wilson, her son, John Crook, 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. And many caring nieces, nephews and loving friends. She is predeceased by a son, David Crook of Charlotte, NC, sister Ruby Helms and brother Doug Helms.
