Herbert Basil Magill

Stanley – Herbert Basil Magill, 82, of Old Mount Holly Road passed away April 9, 2013 at Stanley Total Living Center. He was the son of Ora Basil and Sally Jenkins Magill. Mr. Magill was a Korean War veteran and a member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church in Charlotte. Herbert was a longtime Scout Master of Troop 35 at Hickory Grove Methodist Church. He enjoyed golf and spending time with his grandchildren. He attended Phiffer College and NC State and retired from Duke Energy. He is survived by his sons, James Magill and wife Marianne of Mount Holly and John Magill of Charlotte; brother, James Magill of Largo, Florida; four grandchildren, Shannon Ingram, Evan Magill, Michelle Magill, Matthew Magill; and three great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Green Magill; son, William Basil Magill; and brother, Col. Henry Magill. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3pm at First Presbyterian Church in Stanley with a memorial service to follow with Pastor Dan King officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Parkinson’s disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018 Condolences may be made online at Carothers Funeral Home, Stanley is serving the Magill family

We are sad to here of Mr. Magills death,i allways liked talking to him growing up with his two sons Bill and John,i spent time with Bill the night he passed in 1984 .Always thought of both brothers as best freinds.

We have just gotten word of Mr. Magill's passing on out of this life. "Bob" is warmly remembered here at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church as a faithful member and tireless worker for God, especially with our Scouting program. May God bless and comfort you and give you peace.
