He was born in Gaston County, NC, to his parents, Catherine Neal and the late Robert Neal.
In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Madaline; his brother, Darren Neal; and his grandparents, Sara and Herman Clemmer.
Larry is survived by his mother, Catherine Neal; his daughter, Kellie (Neal) Dillard; his granddaughter, Lucy Dillard; his brothers, Robbie Neal and Scott Neal; his sister, LeAnn Ross; his stepson, Chad Griffin, and Chad’s wife, Sherry, along with their children, Hayes and Addison Griffin. He is also survived by special friends Ernest and Damie Agan, who were truly family to him.
Larry gave his body and soul to his work in the United States Marine Corps and the Air National Guard. He later worked for many years as a mechanic at Freightliner, where he met the love of his life, Madaline. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, fisherman, and hunter who also loved golf and the Atlanta Braves. He enjoyed lengthy motorcycle rallies to Sturgis, among many other destinations, and treasured his family within the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club and his brethren in the military.
Larry dedicated his life to serving his country. He was always a straight shooter. He enjoyed woodworking, reading many books each week, and watching cooking shows. He was immensely creative and known for being able to fix anything. Larry was always ready to participate in charity rides and to help anyone in need.
He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
Rather than sending flowers, the family invites those who wish to honor Larry to consider donating to the Toys for Tots collection bin at Carothers Funeral Home—an organization especially close to his heart and one he personally served. If a donation is not possible, your care and support are truly enough.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park, located at 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia, NC, 28054, United States. The service is scheduled for November 30, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
