Larry Johnson Stubbs, 86, of Stanley, departed this life on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at Stanley Total Living Center, Stanley, North Carolina. He was born in Greenville, North Carolina and was the son of the late Ola Ray and Bessie Rhem Stubbs.
Mr. Stubbs was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, United States Navy and the United States Air Force serving during WWII and the Korean War. He was a 1st Mate on the “Idle On” Charter Fishing Boat. He loved to ride his bicycle around Stanley and Dallas. He participated in the MS Bicycle Ride to Myrtle Beach.
Mr. Stubbs is survived by his step-son, John Williamson and wife Brenda of Dallas; grandchildren, Lynne Leone, Sharon Abernathy and Kelly Williamson; great grandchildren, Brett and Cameron Rushing, Haley Abernathy, Andra Thompson, Samantha Horton, Heather Jernigan and Joni Williamson; and several great, great grandchildren; nephews and nieces, Lynn, Warren, Matthew, Amy, Ray, Phillip, Bobby, Mike, Murrell, Ginger.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Carothers Funeral Home, Stanley.
A graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Hillcrest Gardens, Mt. Holly with Chaplain Ivan Davis officiating and Military Honors by the United States Air Force.
