Paul Thomas “Tommy” Cloninger, 79, of Stanley, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Stanley Total Living Center, Stanley. He was born in Gaston County and was the son of the late Paul Hunter and Beatrice Kennedy Cloninger.
Mr. Cloninger was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 50 years, Helen Faye Penley Cloninger; granddaughter, Hannah Faye Smith; sister, Shirley Fisher.
Mr. Cloninger was a self employed contractor having constructed many homes and businesses in the area. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during the Korean War. He was a member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church, Dallas.
Mr. Cloninger is survived by two sons, Paul Steven Cloninger and wife Donna of Dallas, William Lester Cloninger of Swansboro; two daughters, Stephanie Faye Venning of Morehead City, Mary Louise Miller and husband Jeff of Swansboro; one sister, Mary Jo Cloninger of Dallas, Robert T. Cloninger and wife Lou, John “Les” Cloninger and wife Cynthia of Lincolnton; five grandchildren, Josh Cloninger and wife Carey of Gastonia, Mary Ann Cloninger of Hickory, Erica Venning of Morehead City, Krystal Miller of Swansboro, Jeffrey Miller II and wife Melissa of the U. S. Marine Corps in California; three great grandchildren, Brooke Rogers, Breeann Worley of Hickory, Jeffrey Miller III of California.
At Mr. Cloninger’s request, there will be a service to Celebrate His Life and scatter his cremains alongside his wife at a later date in Swansboro.
