Raeford graduated from Stanley High School and retired from Duke Energy after many years of dedicated service. He was an active member of the Optimist Club, Stanley Rescue Squad, and the Lions Club. Raeford enjoyed fishing, hunting, and never missed an opportunity for a good conversation. He was well known for his sense of humor and ability to make others laugh.”
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in passing by his son, Michael Stepp; brother, Doug E. Stepp; sister, Elizabeth S. Shelton; and son-in-law, James H. Revels Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Nardie M. Stepp; daughter, Rebecca Revels; son, Kevin Stepp and his wife Jennifer; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at Carothers Funeral Home Stanley. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at Alexis Baptist Church Cemetery.
