Ronnie "Ron" J. Smith

Ron was born October 12, 1940, in Stanley, NC, to Leonard H. and Lucy H. Smith. He

graduated from Stanley High School in 1959 and attended the University of North Carolina at

Chapel Hill, where he graduated in 1963.

Following his graduation from UNC, Ron began working in insurance claims with Crawford &

Company. A few years later he joined Ohio Casualty, where he spent 25+ years before retiring

as a claims manager. After leaving the insurance industry, he spent a lengthy time in insurance

litigation, auditing and leveraging his extensive insurance claims background with the law firm

Hall, Booth, Smith, P.C., in Atlanta, GA. He retired a second time at the age of 75 to spend time

with his family, especially his granddaughters.

Ron is survived by his beloved girlfriend Brenda “Bree” Hays; his daughter, Sherry Smith; his

son, R. Mark Smith (Megan); and his granddaughters, Amanda, Lucy and Tatum Smith.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel at

Roswell United Methodist Church located at 814 Mimosa Blvd, Roswell, GA 30075. There will

be a visitation for family and friends preceding the service from 1:00-2:00 PM in the church

parlor.
